5-Spice Roasted Ham
Servings: 10–12
Prep Time: 15 minutes
Cook Time: 1.5–2 hours
Ingredients:
- For the Ham:
- 1 fully cooked smoked ham (8–10 pounds)
- 2 tablespoons Chinese five-spice powder
- 1 tablespoon brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
- For the Glaze:
- 1/2 cup honey
- 1/4 cup soy sauce
- 2 tablespoons rice vinegar
- 1 tablespoon Chinese five-spice powder
- 1 teaspoon chili paste
- 2 teaspoons Dijon mustard
- 1 teaspoon sesame oil
Instructions:
- Warm the Ham:
Preheat oven to 325ºF. Remove ham from packaging and discard the plastic bone guard. Place the largest cut side face-down in a baking pan or roaster with 2–3-inch sides. Add 1 cup of water to the pan and cover tightly with foil or a lid. Bake for about 15 minutes per pound, or until heated through. - Make the Glaze:
While the ham bakes, combine honey, soy sauce, rice vinegar, five-spice powder, chili paste, Dijon mustard, and sesame oil in a saucepan. Simmer over medium heat for 5–7 minutes until slightly thickened. - Glaze the Ham:
About 20 minutes before the ham is done, remove foil. Brush glaze generously over the ham. Return to oven uncovered and continue baking, basting every 5–10 minutes with more glaze, until it forms a sticky caramelized crust. - Serve:
Let the ham rest for 10–15 minutes before slicing. Serve with extra glaze on the side if desired.
