Korean BBQ Chicken & Orzo
This delicious recipe has umami coming out the wazoo! Sesame, ginger, garlic, and kimchi (yup, that’s right!) bring so much depth of flavor without adding heat. You’ll love this comfort dinner without the heaviness!
Korean BBQ Chicken with Kimchi Orzo

For the Korean BBQ Chicken
- 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
- 1/2 cup soy sauce
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 3 cloves garlic, finely minced
- 2 tablespoons ginger, finely grated
- 2 tablespoons sesame oil
- 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
- 1 tablespoon gochugaru (Korean red pepper flakes)
- 1 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
- 2 green onions, thinly sliced (for garnish)

For the Korean-Inspired Orzo
- 1 1/2 cups orzo pasta
- 1/2 cup kimchi, finely chopped
- 2 tablespoons gochujang (Korean red pepper paste)
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon toasted sesame oil
- 2 cloves garlic, finely minced
- 2 green onions, thinly sliced
- Sesame seeds, for garnish
- Fresh cilantro or perilla leaves (optional, for garnish)
Instructions
- Prepare marinade: In a bowl combine garlic, ginger, soy sauce, brown sugar, sesame oil, rice vinegar, gochugaru, and black pepper.
- Marinate chicken: Trim chicken and place in a bag or dish. Pour marinade over, cover, and refrigerate for at least 2 hours or overnight.
- Cook orzo: Bring a pot of salted water to a boil and cook orzo until al dente. Drain and set aside.
- Make kimchi base: In a bowl combine chopped kimchi, gochujang, soy sauce, sesame oil, garlic, and green onions.
- Cook kimchi mixture: Heat a skillet over medium heat and cook the kimchi mixture for 3–4 minutes until slightly caramelized.
- Combine orzo: Add cooked orzo to the skillet and toss to coat. Cook 2–3 minutes until heated through.
- Grill chicken: Preheat grill to medium-high. Remove chicken from marinade and grill 6–8 minutes per side until internal temperature reaches 165°F.
- Rest chicken: Remove from grill and let rest for a few minutes before slicing.
- Serve: Plate orzo and top with sliced chicken. Garnish with green onions, sesame seeds, and herbs if desired.
